Sarto Anthony Knight recreates childhood memories for American Artist-Choreographer.

From a faded photo and childhood recollections Choreographer Ralph Lemon asked Anthony to make the costumes for his Mardi Gras band which was part of his In Proximity performance for Palazzo Grassi’s Dance Studies series.

Understanding the reference, Anthony recreated functional costumes for his New Orleans animal band (see video below in action), whose authenticity brought tears to Ralph Lemon’s eyes.

In Proximity is a work comprising multiple elements, seen and unseen, developed over the course of many years of research into movement, text and sound. A collection of actions with the potential to evoke an instant or more of Bruce Nauman’s works on display at Punta della Dogana, creating inquisitive connections, juxtapositions and/or arguments framed within the visual and sonically marked environment of the deconsecrated Chiesa dei Santi Cosma e Damiano.

Ralph Lemon is choreographer, writer, visual artist and curator, and the Artistic Director of Cross Performance, a company dedicated to the creation of cross‐cultural and cross‐ disciplinary performance and presentation. His works combining live performance, film and visual art have toured throughout the U.S. and Europe.
